General Update

August 2nd, 2013

Wow. It’s been a long time since I’ve updated. Thanks to everyone that has left comments, I’m glad this blog has served as an inspiration to you on your weightloss journey.

So where am I ? Well, I am at the same weight I was 6 months ago. LOL! Once I hit that 130 lbs mark, it became evident that it’s gonna take a lot more effort to lose more. The last 10, the last 20lbs, those might have to wait awhile. I haven’t been following the diet strictly so obviously I ain’t gonna be losing the pounds but at least I’ve been maintaining. My BMI is just above 29, so it would be better if I lose more to get below 29 so I would be in the OK category. However, it’s been hard. The motivation just ain’t there anymore, I’m happy with how I look and how much I’ve lost. Obviously, losing another 10 lbs would be optimal and I’ll look even better, but the drive is not there. I remember a course I took that talked about internal motivation and external motivation. With external motivation, ie. being able to fit into a certain size pants, you can get that internal motivation to say I should go to the gym. I have not found the answer to where I can get that extra motivation. I’m simply happy. Hey, I’ve lost 60 lbs, right?

The diet has taught me how to eat and it’s been a good habit that I have kept like the low sodium, low sugar, low carb, etc., except when I eat out. Some days, I’m on a Phase 1 diet which is probably why I’ve been able to maintain the weight. But to lose weight, you have to keep doing it for many consecutive days which I have not been doing. The doctor has been saying, gotta keep Phase 1 for at least 3 days.

120 lbs, you seem so far away right now. Kinda funny that I feel that way isn’t it? I mean, I was at 194 lbs at one point, which was more than 1.5 years ago.

And many have been asking about my meals, here is a typical Phase 1 day:
Breakfast: Egg white
Snack: Half a green pepper
Lunch: Pan-fried chicken meat (seasoned with garlic & onion powder) plus spinach which was quickly blanched with garlic
Dinner: oven baked tilapia with bit of cilantro and Dash! no salt seasoning, Chinese veggie which was blanched with garlic

Note: I don’t add any salt to them at all, there’s enough natural salt in the meat

Dr. Poon’s Diet – Week 57 Thoughts

March 8th, 2013

This question gets asked a lot, “Does this diet work?”

My answer to this would be, yes it works, if you incorporate this diet into your lifestyle. This applies to any diet. If you make the change, you will eventually see results, but, BUT that is if you stick to it.  It is not a short time thing, it is a lifestyle change!

My stats so far at Week 57…

Weight: 194 lbs –> 131 lbs
BMI: 43.5 –> 29.4
Size: 16 –> 7, XL –> S/XS

So, has the Dr.Poon’s diet worked for me? As you can see, absolutely! And it has worked for many other people.

My ultimate goal is 110 lbs so I’m gonna keep going~ I have been around the 131-133 lbs range the last 2-3 months, that’s cause I have been going to dinners and what not (Christmas and Chinese New Years), so it shows that I can maintain the weight well. LOL

I bought a new leather jacket the other day, it was a size XS. Never thought I would ever fit into something extra small~

I plan on doing Phase 1 for a few days next week and see if that will jumpstart my weightloss below 130 lbs.

End of January

January 31st, 2013

No surprise, my weigh-in showed no real progress. Well, I lost some water, but gained fat and muscle. It was a weird weigh-in but overall, no loss or gain compared to previous weigh-in. I have lost a bit of motivation, but I’m still determined to lose 20 more lbs. My doctor asked me my goal and I told him, 20 more lbs. He said ok.

Tomorrow is February, and in 2 weeks will be Chinese New Year. I’ve lost 65 lbs, how hard is it to lose 20 lbs more? LOL! Apparently, very hard! Because I haven’t been good sticking to the program. Ah well, tomorrow is a brand new month!

Positive attitude is important and I’ve got lots of it!

Another Plateau

January 18th, 2013

Was reading random stuff and somehow fell onto this page which I think summed up what is necessary to be successful on the Dr. Poon’s Diet (or any diet really).

Please give it a read and see what you think!
http://livelightnutrition.blogspot.ca/2011/12/my-experience-coaching-dr-poon-dieters.html

Seems I have hit another plateau in my diet. It’s not the first time I’ve hit one but it’s always frustrating when your weight doesn’t go down regardless of what you’re eating or doing. There’s also that initial panic and I start going to the gym more than usual, which means I might be gaining more muscle mass so I wouldn’t see a loss on the scale. Such viscous cycle no? LOL. Actually, I found also it helps to eat more than usual just to switch it up a bit and then the weigh tloss continues~

I had my first Chinese music group practice yesterday in a long time, many haven’t seen me in half year, so I certainly got a lot of compliments about my appearance.

“I almost didn’t recognize you, you look great!”
“Great job!”
etc. etc.

Hearing those compliments makes you all warm and fuzzy inside. hahaha!

My monthly weigh-in was pushed to next week because my Doctor had to be away, we shall see if I make any progress…

2012 – Reflection

January 3rd, 2013

2012, a year of highs and lows. It was a year where I started to think about what I want. My dad’s brush with cancer and then surgery back in January 2012 also put the importance of being healthy into my mind. It was rather fitting that my doctor told me that my liver isn’t well and unless I lose weight, it will only get worse and other problems might arise. I hadn’t turned 30 yet at that time, and I thought, I’m still young, this isn’t right.

Following Dr.Poon’s diet made me look carefully at what I was eating. I started the diet back in February 2012, the transition wasn’t hard, I made a schedule, I knew what I was eating for each meal for the whole week. My mind was focused. As time went on, the process just became a habit. For the first few months, with the exception of celebrating my 30th birthday in May and my good friend’s wedding, I avoided eating out. Gradually, eating out wasn’t such a big deal and I knew what to look for and avoid any temptations. Of course I gained weight here and there, but I think it’s all part of the process. My trip to Japan in November was a gift to myself, I didn’t hold back while I was there, nor should anyone that goes away on vacation while on this diet (just don’t go overboard). So 11 months into the diet, I’m at 65 lbs down. My approach is slow and steady cause I don’t want to go back. I haven’t reached my goal yet, but soon, soon I will get there.

Thanks everyone for reading my blog, my journey, and leaving comments. This year will be a good a year, at least I will try my best to make it to be.

Happy New Year! All the best for 2013!!!

For those starting the Dr.Poon’s diet or already part of the diet, you have my support.

December!

December 4th, 2012

Already near the end of the year! Wow! Busy times. Not only work wise but also socially! (haha)

Thanks to everyone who have left comments and/or messaged me about the Poon diet. I’m past the 65 lbs weight loss, and looking to lose 20 lbs more. The last 20 lbs, it seems harder, maybe it’s just that time of the year. I haven’t lost a lot the last 2 months, of course vacation played a big part, but I’m happy that I’m maintaining my weight too. My next visit won’t be until the New Year so let’s see how well I do this holiday. LOL

I finally took the Christmas tree up last week and started decorating the house. It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas!

Into November + Dr.Poon Diet – Week 40 Update

November 5th, 2012

My trip to Hong Kong and Japan was absolutely amazing. Had so much fun! Went to lots of new places in Japan, can’t wait to go there again. Tried all the specialty food for each place. The Hong Kong trip was special because it was just like going home, I wasn’t there to sight-see or anything, just meet up with family and stuff. Although the time there was short, just 4 days, I felt overwhelmed with love. Hahaha (so cheesy).

Some people are probably wondering how my “diet” went while on the 3 week trip, I didn’t bother, and really never planned to follow it. Dr. Poon has said on his blog before, you’re on vacation in a different place, why shouldn’t you try local food? I avoided fried stuff while on the trip and potatoes, that’s about it. Carbs are embedded in the Asian culture (LOL) so I did nothing to avoid it, especially since I was going from places to places everyday in Japan.

I went for a weigh-in after 1.5 weeks of returning from my trip and was down 3 lbs from the previous weigh-in (which was just before I left). So, I think it went fine. Did Phase 1 for 3 days and then started eating Phase 2 foods again thereafter.

Dr. Poon’s Diet – Week 35 Thoughts

September 27th, 2012

I safely passed a total loss of 60 lbs~ Wohoo! so things are still going well for me. Fat and water loss with muscle gain too! I’m glad. haha. I didn’t lose as much as I had hoped cause of the first two weeks of September, but I’m not that concern. Slow and steady is fine, especially at this stage. So since February, I have lost 60 lbs.

I’ll be going on my 2.5 weeks of vacation soon so I was given the info sheets about Phase 3. it was an interesting read. It’ll be tough to stick to it in Asia, but it’s all about keeping a balance. Like my doctor was saying, you can eat anything, but within certain limits. With the amount of walking that I’m expecting, I think I’ll do fine. The last two times I went, I ended up losing weight cause I was walking so much everyday.

The goal is to not gain weight on this trip! I’ll do my best!!

Second Week of September

September 11th, 2012

Had a great Labour Day weekend, Company cruise event and Family BBQ~ ate too much meat at the BBQ but oh well, I enjoyed myself and had loads of fun chatting with my cousins.

Got plenty of compliment from them about how well I look, I haven’t seen them in awhile since I haven’t gone to any family dinners or dim sum. Although, I did go to dim sum recently, maybe because I’m more confident in knowing what I can eat a bit of and not be tempted to try the no-no foods. Obviously, I barely ate anything but it’s nice to chat with everyone since I’ve been MIA. I drank my money’s worth on tea. haha

Dr. Poon’s Diet – Week 31 Update

August 31st, 2012

Week 31, wohooohooo. Went to the clinic the other night, I love how quick the visits are, could be in and out in 5 -10 minutes if my doctor is not busy. Surpassed my goal for the weigh in, 56 lbs down and now onto my next goal. Still 5 weeks away from my vacation, I can’t wait!!! Not sure how I’ll do food wise, can’t avoid carbs when you’re in Asia but I will be walking a lot so hopefully it won’t be so bad.

For anyone on Phase 2, instead of using soy sauce, you can try using Worcestershire sauce. Several brands even have low sodium kind too. It gives meat an extra kick if you like the taste of it.
